On November 3, 2021 Exporters and Investors Council under the MFA of Ukraine held an online briefing on the issues and prospects of entering the USA market by Ukrainian companies. The event was organized by Exporters and Investors Council (CEI) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The briefing was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (CDTO) Dmytro Senik, Ambassador of Ukraine in the United States of America Volodymyr Yelchenko, heads of Consulates General of Ukraine in New York, San Francisco and Chicago, as well as around 30 representatives of Ukrainian business.

Deputy Minister Dmytro Senik noted that the United States is the first world’s largest importer of goods and services. «A market entry price is high, but the prospects are impressive. An interesting fact: in 2019 exports of Ukrainian services to the United States amounted to $1.2 billion and exceeded its exports of goods by $100 million. The task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to help businesses to keep the same positive trend in terms of service exports, and increase exports of Ukrainian goods to American market along with it», - said the diplomat.

Dmytro Senik stressed that Ukrainian business can use already existing opportunities of preferential tariff treatment exporters under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). According to him, products placed in regime of duty-free import under the GSP consist of a wide range of agricultural and industrial goods. «In 2019, Ukrainian goods exported under the GSP amounted to $54.8 million. The US imports from Georgia under the GSP for comparison amounted to $112 million, and the US imports from Thailand amounted to $4.8 billion», - noted the Deputy Minister.

He also added that Ukraine, as a signatory to the Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA), has access to the United States public procurement market, which amounts to about $300 billion a year.

During the briefing, the diplomats provided detailed information about these and other opportunities for Ukrainian exporters, including practical recommendations for the US market entry for food companies. The participants shared practical advice and recommendations, discussed prospects for bilateral economic cooperation and the USA market expansion opportunities.

Dmytro Senik drew attention of business representatives to the fact that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine considers diplomatic support of domestic exporters one of the priorities. «The doors of our diplomatic missions abroad are open for you, and diplomats are ready to help you enter new markets and promote Ukrainian products», - Deputy minister stressed.

Exporters and Investors Council (EIC) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is a platform where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accumulates information on investment and trade opportunities, as well as business matchmaking possibilities from around the world.
