On March 18, 2021 Exporters and Investors Council (EIC) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of South Africa held an online briefing for Ukrainian exporters on market entry and doing business in South Africa.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (CDTO) Dmytro Senik and Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of South Africa Lіubov Abravitova opened the event. The online briefing was attended by Ukrainian producers of food, agricultural, chemical and pharmaceutical, mechanical and engineering products.
Dmytro Senik in the opening session of the event noted that South Africa is one of Ukraine's largest trading partners in sub-Saharan Africa.
«The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to help our exporters to get access to the African market, as the development of the bilateral economic cooperation with Africa is one of its priorities this year», - Dmytro Senik stressed.
During the event, Ukrainian diplomats spoke about doing business in South Africa, discussed market entry conditions, certification, non-tariff barriers to trade and other trade related issues.
The TOP-5 products that were exported to the South African market from Ukraine in 2020 were grain crops, ferrous metals, vegetables, animal fats and oils or vegetable oils, products of the flour and cereal industry.
As Liubov Abravitova, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of South Africa pointed out, agriculture, energy, shipbuilding, food industry, mining, mechanical engineering are the most prospective fields of bilateral economic cooperation.
It is also worth noting, that the Ukrainian-South African Business Council was established in 2020 in order to promote Ukrainian exports to the markets of South Africa.
